This year, the call for immigration reform is one of the biggest waves to sweep the US Congress and the rest of the nation. The move to reform the existing US immigration law was initiated months ago by President George W. Bush in a televised speech. Some of the core objectives of the proposed bill include the reinforcement of border security, the approval of a guest-worker program, and the opening the doorway so that illegal immigrants living in the nation could legalize their status. With the growing rate of illegal immigration, there is clearly an immediate need to change some of our
country's immigration rules. Unfortunately, the US Congress is still divided due to the members' conflicting views to the provisions of the bill.
Are you pro immigration reform or against it? The opposition against the bill stems from the fact that it would provide the 11.5 million unlawful residents in the US the chance to obtain citizenship. Yet the rest of the bill is about boosting
border security and improving the requirements for qualified immigrants. And that is exactly what the nation needs now. The reform is not simply about preventing people from crossing the borders. It is about increasing security and saving the lives of Americans as well as those who risk their lives penetrating the borders.
