Europe is about to send a number of boats as well as an aircraft in order to monitor the European coast and the waters off west Africa in order to prevent illegal immigrants from risking their lives just to reach the shores of Europe. It must be noted that
thousands of Africans brave the seas yearly just to penetrate Europe. Unfortunately, while some of them survive the perilous journey, others die or perish due to calamities, starvation, and cold.
As such, the 25 members of the
European Union have decided to intensify their battle against illegal immigration. Particularly, the EU would be focusing on Malta, Spain, and Italy, which have consistently been the hotspots for illegal immigration. According to reports about 10,000 Africans have already landed on European shores just this year compared to the 4,700 people recorded last year. Meanwhile, hundreds of people are believed to have died during the voyage. The month-long mission supported by the newly formed EU border agency Frontex would send several boats, an aircraft, and a group of immigration experts to reinforce border patrol and security. With the new mission, the EU hopes to reduce the number of illegal immigrants reaching the shores of Europe and lower the rate of fatalities caused by this problem.
