Before visiting the California-Mexico border, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger urged the US Congress last Wednesday to approve the
comprehensive immigration reform in order to address the growing problem of illegal immigration. In his official statement, the governor said that it would be an irresponsible act if the Congress would fail to approve a comprehensive immigration reform and thus resolve immigration issues. He added that concerns for illegal immigration, drug trafficking, and terrorism would remain unless the borders are secured.
It must be noted that California is among the states troubled most by illegal immigration. Schwarzenegger has already cooperated with the governors of some western states in providing
National Guard troops that would reinforce security at the US borders. At present, the Senate and the House of the Representatives are divided as regards the proposed immigration reform. While the House approves the reinforcement of border security, it opposes a provision from the Senate that give illegal immigrants the chance to legalize their status.
Meanwhile in Europe, several nations have also joined forces in order to fight illegal immigration. Aside from reinforcing its border patrol, the EU would also use robot spyplanes to track illegal immigrants as well as drug and human traffickers.
